GERDA WEGENER, ARKEN

You might have heard about the movie "The Danish Girl", which is about a Danish couple, who both are artists and ends with that the man gets a gender reassignment surgery. It's a movie based on a true story and it's truly beautiful to watch. The woman is Gerda Wegener, who painted and drew very many paintings of beautiful women and among them her husband, Einar Wegener whom she dressed out as a woman and used as a muse. Somehow, this must have encouraged Einar to actually parachuting himself into such a difficult choice about changing gender even though he most likely always must have felt that he was born in the wrong body. There is an exhibition on Arken in Ishøj that exhibits many of Gerda Wegeners pieces and it's a very fine one. She paints women in such a beautiful way with plenty of pretty brushstrokes. Apart from that then the exhibition contains a couple of Einar Wegeners pieces as well (the ones of cities and landscapes). Stop by Arken, it's worth it!
